Parfait Loving <3
So my dad is in town visiting and he has a sweet tooth, always wants to eat ice cream and all that unhealthy stuff. So i decided to get him hooked on parfaits which taste just as nice as any other snack but are a healthier option. The amazing thing about parfaits is that you can pretty much create what ever you want with a series of different types of fruits, yogurt flavors and toppings.
I'd advise to go with greek yogurt mainly because it has double the protein in regular yogurt, fewer carbohydrates than regular yogurt, half the sodium in regular yogurt, less calories due to less sugar and it has a thicker consistency that fills you up faster. My fave greek yogurt brands are Chobani as it has no corn starch and is made from natural ingredients, you could also try Oiko. Another option can be low fat yogurt which might not taste as nice but with the fruits and toppings added you probably would not notice.
Tips for your parfaits
1. Layer! Layer! Layer... :)...the fun part of making a parfait is the ability to layer all that yummy goodness and create something really pretty.
2. Use a variety of fruits... Omg there are too many fruits options in the world that can be added to your healthy fruit parfait. How about you decide to experiment now? My fave options for parfaits are;
1. Honey dews
2. Strawberries
3. Bananas
4. Kiwis
5. Cherries
6. Cantaloupes
3. Top it up...I love the theatrics of food design (lol) so you should understand how much i would love topping food up to make it look pretty. There are lots of toppings to go with like:
1. Crushed Graham crackers
2. Granola (honey nut, peanuts, almonds, cinnamon raisin etc)
3. Nuts
4. Berries
5. Cherries
The list goes on...another great granola option is the "harvest crunch" cereal (it is oh so yummy)!.
I hope i have been able to help you decide to "snack healthy" hence forth. You can look this link up for interesting ideas here. Tomorrow I will share recipes for snacks with readily available ingredients in Nigeria.
Have a great day. hugs Ruemu.x
